After a nail-biting season one, TVNZ2 is bringing back the ultimate test of endurance, strength and strategy, with castaways competing for $250,000.

Survivor New Zealand is bringing back Fair Go reporter Matt Chisholm to host the tough reality show again.

Chisholm called the last experience as "epic ride from go-to-whoa".

Making the merge is a huge milestone in Survivor as it signifies the start of the individual game. This is usually when big plays start to be seen as people fight to stay alive.

"We've listened to the fans and are gearing up to make season two bigger and better."

"Not only will contestants be slugging it out for the coveted title of Sole Survivor but this year, there's a staggering $250,000 up for grabs. That alone will bring out the fierce competitor in each contestant – that's a life-changing amount of money," he said.

The castaways spend up to 40-days on an island competing, outlasting and attempting to outwit their competitors.

Avi Ducker-Jones won the last series of Survivor New Zealand: Nicaragua in July, saying he was "so incredibly excited and honoured to be the first ever New Zealand Sole Survivor".
