House of Cards' sixth season to be its last amid Kevin Spacey allegations

October 31, 2017

The Netflix series House of Cards will end after next year's sixth season amid newly-revealed historic allegations of inappropriate behaviour against star of the show, Kevin Spacey.

Allegations were made against Spacey by actor Anthony Rapp, who said Spacey, at the time 26, pushed him, at the time 14, on to a bed after a party at Spacey's apartment in 1986, with the intent to "seduce" him.

Spacey has said in a statement he does not remember the alleged offending but apologised.

House of Cards production companies Netflix and Media Rights Capital today released a statement saying they are "deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey".

"In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported," the statement read.

"As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time."

The Hollywood Reporter reported that a number of calls were made to staff today confirming the official end of the series.

Season 6 of the show is expected to debut in mid-2018 on Netflix.
