BBC Two has released a first look at French actress Eva Green in character for her role in the upcoming screen adaptation of The Luminaries.

The six-part series is being filmed in New Zealand and is based on the 2013 Man Booker prize-winning novel by New Zealander Eleanor Catton.

Co-stars include Eve Hewson, Himesh Patel, Ewen Leslie, Marton Csokas, Erik Thomson Benedict Hardie, Yoson An and Richard Te Are.

The story is based in the 19th century as men and women from around the world travelled long distances to find their fortunes.

It is set on New Zealand's West Coast during the 1860s gold rush, where a defiant young adventurer settles after sailing from Britain.

The series was filmed in association with TVNZ and the New Zealand Film Commission.
