Fan outrage as Kiwi woman ousted from The Voice UK following brilliant performance

January 28, 2019

Fans around the world are in despair after a Kiwi contestant on The Voice UK failed to make it to the next round despite a stunning vocal performance at the weekend.

Eden Kavanagh, who performed the song They Just Keep Moving the Line from TV series Smash yesterday, was supported by her mother, who had flown from New Zealand for the audition in the fourth week of the 2019 series.

Fans were quick to announce their displeasure. Among them was Kavanagh's mother, who said, "Are they deaf? Are they nuts?" The Express UK reports.

Host Olly Murs was quick to defend his decision.

"It’s really difficult," he said. "I’m waiting for that moment when someone hits me, you know?"

On her Facebook page, Kavanagh said she could not believe her fans' reaction.

"Thank you so much to everyone for their kinds words!! This is WILD!" she wrote. "It was a big roller coaster ride getting these 90 seconds. I'm talking sweat, stress and tears (all happy tears of course). I have honestly loved every moment of this journey. Good luck to all the contestants that made it through!"
