Jim Carey has conducted one of the more bizarre red carpet interviews ever recorded, both trashing the event he was about to attend, and delving into his existential angst with a bewildered reporter.
Attending the Harper’s Bazaar’s ICONS party in New York, Carey begun the interview with E! News' Catt Sadler by circling her twice, then launched unprompted into the following frank, or unhinged, monologue:
"There's no meaning to any of this. I wanted to find the most meaningless thing I could come to and join and here I am. I mean you gotta admit it's completely meaningless," Carey starts with.
Sadler replies: "Well they say they're celebrating icons."
Carey quickly jumps in mockingly: "Celebrating icons. Boy that is just the absolute lowest aiming, you know, possibility that we could come up with."
"Icons. Do you believe in icons? I don't believe in personalities. I don't believe that you exist, but there is a wonderful fragrance in the air."
Carey then transitioned into a James Brown impression, and continued riffing around the possibility that neither he, nor interviewer Sadler existed.
“There is no me. There’s just things happening," Carey proposed.
"We don't matter."
Who knows how the event itself unfolded for Carey, but the red carpet interview itself definitely didn't lack meaning.
