The Doc Edge Festival was nearly derailed after Heart of the City's former boss, Alex Swney, swindled $2.5m from the funding organisation, but the council stepped in with an undisclosed amount to save the day.

The only condition was that the festival now be hosted in Wellington.

Organiser Dan Shanan said he and all of his colleagues were disappointed when funding was initially pulled, but are now looking forward to the opening night at the Roxy.
