A feature-length sequel movie to the global hit series Breaking Bad is in the works, industry insiders say.

Breaking Bad revolved around a high school chemistry teacher who finds out he has cancer before turning to manufacturing drugs to pay for his treatment, and was a huge critical success, running for five seasons.

The Hollywood Reporter has been told the upcoming movie will revolve around Jesse Pinkman, who will be played by Aaron Paul in a reprisal of his role.

Director of the original series Vince Gilligan is also reported to be writing and directing the movie.

In terms of a plot, the only details given are that the film may "follow the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom," The Hollywood Reporter says.

Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston, who played Walter white, also confirmed the movie was in the works.

Cranston reportedly told The Dan Patrick Show he would love to be involved, if he was needed.

"It's a great story and there are a lot of people who felt that they wanted to see some kind of completion to some of these storylines that were left open [in the series finale]," Cranston said.

"This idea, from what I'm told, gets into those — at least a couple of the character show were not completed, as far as their journey.

"I don't know if there's an appearance — flashbacks, flash forwards — but I'm excited about it because it's Breaking Bad and it was the greatest professional period of my life and I can't wait to see all those people again, even if I just come by to visit."
