The 85-year-old got rid of live-stock, banned duck shooters and spent two years turning wetlands south of Dunedin into something special for his community.
The couple's car was written off and the stag was euthanised by a vet soon after the incident.
However, the last few days' dump has created very slippery, dangerous roads around the tourist town.
"The Proctor understood that the reason copies of this week's issue had been removed from public places, was that the cover was objectionable to many people," a university spokesperson said.
