Another 41 jobs are set to go at Solid Energy's beleaguered Stockton Mine in Buller.
The company says the proposed redundancies are part of its on-going response to falls in the international price of hard coking coal and its on-going efforts to improve financial performance.
Solid Energy was placed in voluntary administration last August and staff numbers at the mine have already been cut from just under 400 last year to 225 currently.
The company says the proposed changes build on substantial efficiencies already gained at the mine and will further strengthen the financial performance of the operations.
Consultation between the mine's workers and management began this afternoon.
Staff members have until March 22 to provide any feedback on the proposal, which will be considered before a final decision is announced, on or around March 30, Solid Energy said tonight.
