A fast moving peloton was unwilling to let an early breakaway get the jump on them, the first real opportunity coming 40kms into the race, however that didn't last too long.

It took leading riders Mike Northey, Michael Torckler, Tom Vessey and Ben Hill to make the true break, with Torckler taking over ownership of the stage.

The chasing group worked hard but it was too little too late, as Hill sprinted clear to collect his third victory of the Tour.

There is just 24 seconds separating the top four in the General Classification category heading into the final day tomorrow.

Mitchell Lovelock-Fay from Avanti Racing Team will wear the yellow jersey, while his team also sit top of the leader board from H&J Smith Outdoor team.

The final day consists of the Winton Individual time trial before the 88km ride from Winton to Invercargill.
