Many women around New Zealand wore headscarves today in support of Muslims, to show them they are not alone, a week on from the Christchurch mosques terrorist attack.
A spokesperson from the Islamic Woman's Council said she is moved by the gesture and that it was a good way of showing solidarity.
Many others have agreed.
“They shouldn’t be afraid to go out wearing a hijab, because everybody’s welcome in New Zealand,” one lady said.
“I’ve had a couple of Muslim ladies that have smilid at me. It’s just something small that I can do and it’s just a token gesture," another woman said.
Another lady said, “If we don’t do it now, when are we ever going to do it?”
