What are the steps to obtain TVNZ library content?top

TVNZ has partnered with Getty Images to offer you a large online catalogue and fulfill commercial licensing requests.  Browse the TVNZ Collection in the Getty Images online catalogue here

Cant find what you are looking for? Contact Getty Images team (0800 880 550 or TVNZsales@gettyimages.com) to request TVNZ content that doesn't appear on the website.  Getty Images will provide quotes and licence agreements and liaise with TVNZ librarians to research and supply catalogue information (e.g. dates, shot descriptions, copyright details) and/or viewing copies, then master copies of the content you select.

How long does the whole process take?top

The time it takes to provide research results depends mainly on the size and complexity of your request, so please contact Getty Images as early as you can.  For an average request, please allow 3-4 working days for the provision of shot descriptions or viewing copies.

What is in the TVNZ Collection?top

TVNZ's production library is the largest in New Zealand, including most of the locally-produced programmes broadcast by TVNZ (news, current affairs, documentaries, sports, entertainment, drama) as well as stock footage images and the National Film Unit Collection.

TVNZ has now partnered with Getty to provide you with a sample of this available content, in an online catalogue that you can browse directly. If what you require is not in the online catalogue contact Getty Images team to initiate a search of the full TVNZ collection

How much does it cost to license material?top

The cost of licensing footage comprises a licence fee plus supply costs. The licence fee depends on factors such as the rights required, territories, licence period and the library content itself.  For further details contact the Getty Images team - 0800 880 550 or TVNZsales@gettyimages.com.

What will it cost?top

The cost of footage for personal use varies - the total cost depends on the duration of the clip and what format it is being transferred from. The cost ranges from $78 upwards.

Can I get copies of old programmes from the 1960s onwards?top

It's possible to obtain programmes from 1960 (the year of New Zealand's first television transmission) onwards.  TVNZ's libraries are not guaranteed to hold everything, but it's worth asking.

Why can't I have a particular programme?top

There are a number of reasons why a particular programme may not be available.  Supply of some programmes is restricted for copyright or other legal reasons and some are simply not held in the TVNZ collections.  The libraries hold content made by or for TVNZ.  They do not hold overseas programmes, movies or advertisements.

What formats can I get my footage/programme on?top

Footage for personal and private use can be supplied as an electronic file that can be emailed to you.  If necessary, we can supply footage on DVD.

How long will my order take to arrive?top

Orders generally take 10 days to be dubbed and dispatched from the date that we receive payment.

Why is it so expensive?top

TVNZ does not hold excerpts of programmes and news items ready to simply send out when they are requested. Each order is a special, one-off transfer incurring a number of costs. This service is run on a cost-recovery basis only and the fees that we charge for the supply of material reflect the real cost of producing and supplying one-off copies of our archived content.
