A nine-month-old baby died in Napier overnight, and so far the death is unexplained, police say.
Officers are making inquiries - speaking to people who were at the house at the time - in an attempt to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, Detective Sergeant Darren Pritchard said in a statement today.
Emergency responders were contacted at about 3.45am, and the child was confirmed dead a short time later.
